Today and tomorrow, more than forty local and international artists will be performing in Cape Town on five different stages for the 13th annual installment of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. The festival, which will be held over two days on Friday 30 March and Saturday 31 March has grown immensely since it first started in 2000. Attendance for the festival has grown year on year.
Some of the highlights this year include the legendary trumpeter, Hugh Masekela. Masakela will be performing with Vusi Mahlasela, Thandiswa Mazwai and Zolani Mahola from FreshlyGround. Together, they will be presenting a tribute to the late Miriam Makeba with songs like ‘Patta Patta’, ‘Soweto Blues’ and ‘Meet Me at the River’.
Lauryn Hill will be replacing Jill Scott as one of the main features of the festival. Jill Scott canceled her appearance at the festival due to other commitments. Zahara, the South African guitar playing Afro-pop sensation will be performing songs from her album Loliwe. Dave Koz and Patti Austin will be collaborating in a live performance tonight on the Klippies stage from 8.30 pm to 9.45 pm.
