Eighty years of literary excellence; Happy Birthday John le Carre!

One of the greatest authors of our time celebrates his eightieth birthday today. John le Carre, real name David Cornwell, has brought us many literary treasures over the years and has been compared to some of the greatest authors in history.

Check out this comment from his author profile by The Guardian:

His great predecessors are Charles Dickens, Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene. Like them, le Carré has recast the times he, and we, have lived through: the cold war, the iron curtain, the gruesome effects of European imperial decisions on the nations and states of the Middle East and Africa. His acute attention to character and place and his technical mastery as a dramatic storyteller, have given us a moral vision of western culture and a particular le Carré world.

We wish John le Carre many more years ahead (and not just for the sake of getting more amazing novels out of him!).

You can order a copy of his latest novel, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, from Exclusive.co.za.

His latest novel is currently being made into a major movie and is due for release on the big screen in December 2011 (only in the USA though, South Africans will have to wait till next year to see the movie). But for those who can’t wait, you can check out the trailer here.
