Exclusive Books Hyde Park Renovation and Restaurant

To all our Customers

For the next three months Exclusive (Hyde Park) will be going through a profound transformation.

It is our hope that when all the building and shop-fitting is complete, you will have a store quite out of the ordinary. It will be bookshop, coffee bar and world-class restaurant. Most importantly, it will offer our customers both calming refuge and the challenge of theatre. Our book inventory will be significantly expanded and our children’s department will be immeasurably improved both through better curation and the introduction of inter-active learning systems housed in a Promethean table – which will be a world-first for a bookshop.

The current windows on our northern boundary will be removed and the new store will extend from the present entrance across the car-park to the northern extremity of the building. You will find in the new space a world-class restaurant and bar (Australian Master Chef Russel Armstrong is joining our team as Executive Head Chef) that will offer tapas-style small dishes prepared by Russel and his team in a purpose-built crafted kitchen. The restaurant, bar (and extended bookshop) will have floor-to-ceiling windows open to the spectacular vistas of Johannesburg’s urban forest to the north. Whether you wish to have a glass of wine with goose liver parfait, toasted sourdough and pickled cherries en route to another appointment, or you bring your family to enjoy Sunday lunch, or friends for a spectacular dinner, the quality of what you eat, and the care with which it is prepared, will be paramount.

All the while the engine for this spectacular retail offering is fuelled first and foremost by our passion for books and you will dine or drink with landscape in front of you and books all around. Will anything ever be better?

Ever since we acquired Exclusive Books in December 2013, ideas for this expansion have been to the fore. It took a long-time to negotiate all the minutiae with Hyprop’s management and we have to thank them for having the confidence in this project.

Bear with us while we go through the pain of these changes, we assure you that it will be worth the effort.

Our new bookshop and coffee bar will be complete November 2015
Our extension and restaurant will be open December 2015

In the meantime we have opened a pop-up store on the middle mall (next door to Poetry) and, of course, our Spring sale will still take place from September 24 to October 11 in the court immediately in front of our existing premises.

My best wishes

Benjamin Trisk
CEO
