James Bond started as a series of novels and short stories first published in 1953. 007 was originally created by journalist and author Ian Fleming who wanted to create a spy novel after World War II. James Bond was born in Casino Royale, the very first novel, and acquired a successful spy-career in the twelve novels and two collections of short stories by Fleming that were to follow. From Fleming’s death in 1964, James Bond featured in the novels of a number of authors including Kingsley Amis, Christopher Wood, John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Faulks and most recently in Jeffery Deaver’s Carte Blanche.

From novels to film adaptations, James bond has become the longest running series in film history. Actors that have played 007 include Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.
