The Ugly Truth

The Ugly Truth, written by Nicole Eastman, Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith; and directed by Robert Luketic (21, Monster in Law and Legally Blonde) is a delightful romantic comedy that takes the battle of the sexes to a whole new level.

Enter Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl), a hopeless romantic in search of Mr. Perfect, while trying to further her career as the producer of a morning television show. However, her uptight and controlling nature has caused her to stay single for over a year. When the ratings of her morning show starts to drop, her bosses introduce the crude and unmannered Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler) in an attempt to boost the shows ratings. Mike’s segment, The Ugly Truth, promises to spill the beans on the ins and outs of relationships. His advice is riddled with chauvinist remarks and lewd suggestions, directly opposing Abby’s view of romantic love.
This obviously causes friction between the two characters. When Abby falls in love with the hunky next door neighbour, Colin (Eric Winter), Mike promises to resign from the morning show if he fails to get Abby and Colin together. Abby is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by Mike to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love. His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result.
The rest of the movie follows the two storylines of Mike assisting Abby in her relationship with Colin, and Mike’s attempt to save the morning television show.
