This guide has been lovingly compiled by a panel of experienced booksellers who spent countless years scouring overstuffed bookshelves to find the best selection of children’s books for your child’s reading pleasure.
These books are about more than good marks or homework assignments. They’re all about reading under the sheets with a flashlight, walking into lampposts on your way to school and soggy pages in a bathtub.
The books in this guide are the stepping stones that will lead your child into the magical world of reading for fun. After all, there’s no such thing as a child that doesn’t read, just a child that hasn’t found the perfect book yet

I dont have one favourite childhood author, I have many which include the likes of Roald Dahl and Dr Seuss and J.K Rowling. I loved reading as a child and still do. I would like to be entered into the teen competition – Derek Landy’s The Maleficent Seven
Definitely Roald Dahl!!! Dahl was so popular because his books are funny and they have amazing adventures and crazy characters. They are about crazy things like a chocolate factory and a chocolate river and little people called Umperlumpers and a poor boy that has a chance to win the chocolate factory, crazy people that eat bird pie, farmers that try to kill foxes, a very big crocodile and a glass elevator. Children should read his books because they are funny and creative. We, as adults should also read his books because they’re funny, there’s crazy people, there’s giants and crazy adventures that would not happen in real life which gives you an excited feeling that you want to see what happens next. It is hard to stop reading them!
Enid Blyton (Emily Gravett hamper, please)
