Christopher Hitchens passes away at the age of 62

Christopher Hitchens, one of the most erudite, controversial and outspoken essayists of our time, passed away on 15 December 2011 after a battle with cancer. Well known for his views on religion, politics, history and literature he was a well respected and admired columnist who wrote for a multitude of international publications. The Guardian described him as:

… the left’s biggest journalistic star, writing and broadcasting with wit, style and originality in a period when such qualities were in short supply among those of similar political persuasion. Nobody else spoke with such confidence and passion for what Americans called “liberalism” and Hitchens (regarding “liberal” as too “evasive”) called “socialism”.

The passing of Hitchens leaves a gaping hole in the ranks of the thinking class, his equal will be hard to find.
