Kingsmead Book Fair 2014 Announcement

Kingsmead Book Fair, Saturday 24 May, 2014

Kingsmead College, Johannesburg, is proud to be hosting its third annual Kingsmead Book Fair, sponsored by RMB Private Bank and The Times. On Saturday 24 May, 2014, the gates of Kingsmead College will open to welcome thousands of eager readers, who will enjoy a day of robust comparing, sharing, discussing and debating amongst their favourite authors, writers and media personalities.

This year, Deon Meyer, Justin Cartwright, Niq Mhlongo, Tim Couzens, Moeletsi Mbeki, Dominique Botha and Marianne Thamm are just some of the authors who will discuss their books.

Jenny Crwys-Williams, Eusebius McKaiser, Michele Magwood, Ndumiso Ngcobo and Sue Grant-Marshall will be among the facilitators at the Book Fair. The inimitable Pieter-Dirk Uys will perform in the evening.

The sessions will take the form of one-on-one conversations, discussions between two or three writers and a facilitator, as well as occasional talks. The 45-minute sessions will start at 10h00 and run concurrently throughout the day until 17h00.

Exclusive Books will set up shop for the day, so you will be able to purchase the authors’ books and have them signed on the spot.

There is also a children’s programme, aimed at five- to ten-year olds, so that the family can enjoy the day in the school’s beautiful grounds in Melrose, Johannesburg.

Vendors will sell delicious food and serve fresh coffee and other beverages throughout the day.

Kingsmead College, RMB Private Bank and The Times are committed to promoting literacy. In the weeks leading up to the Kingsmead Book Fair, we will collect books that will then be donated to a number of schools in need of support. A significant portion of the funds raised will go towards Kingsmead’s Bursary Fund, which sponsors the education of talented girls, as well as other literacy-related projects.

The Kingsmead Book Fair, much like the Franschhoek Literary Festival, has become a significant event on the South African literary calendar. So don’t miss Saturday, 24 May, at Kingsmead College, 132 Oxford Road, Johannesburg.
The school is conveniently situated next to Rosebank’s Gautrain Station. There are also plenty of hotels within walking distance of the school.

Book directly through Webtickets.
