Riaan Cruywagen to launch Wat’s Nuus at Exclusive Books Mimosa in Bloemfontein

Riaan Cruywagen Book Launch Wat's Nuus?

With this book I also want to say: ‘This is me, this is how my head works’

He has been compared to the likes of Chuck Norris and David Hasselhoff. It has been said that if he reads the news, you can be assured that it really happened. He has been called “Old Volkswagen” by some; a cultural signifier to the likes of Mrs. Ball’s and Klipdrift. This week, Riaan Cruywagen has released his autobiography and will be launching his book titled Wat’s Nuus? at Exclusive Books Mimosa Mall in Bloemfontein on 10 April 2012.

Cruywagen worked on his first ‘transmission’ at the age of 5. A couple of thousand transmissions later, Cruywagen reached widespread South African acclaim for his work as an Afrikaans newsreader on SABC2. This year marks his forty-seventh year in broadcasting, thirty-seven of which has been spent in television.

Cruywagen never saw the point of writing a book until now. He was approached by various publishers in the past and have declined to write a story. But his presence during the birth of South Africa’s television history is what is especially valuable and has now been brought to life by Naledi Publishing.

In Wat’s Nuus? Cruywagen talks about the time when he abruptly and uncontrollably started laughing during a news broadcast in the 80s. He also tells about his childhood; the story about how he started his television career in 1975 as the first newsreader in South Africa; the unforgettable part he played in the children’s show Haas Das se Nuuskas and much more.
