The Exclusive Books Homebru 2013 campaign – Unique Perspectives on South Africa – will take place in stores from 26 April to 21 June 2013. Homebru is a popular, well-loved and widely inclusive campaign that has launched the careers of several South African writers while adding another voice to the streets, plains and vistas of this complex and multi-cultural country.

Exclusive Books has put together a wonderful selection of unique South African perspectives in this year’s campaign. Each book offers some insight into the complex history and landscape of South Africa, contributing to the growing canon of fiction and non-fiction. Books investigating local history such as The Great Trek Uncut by Robin Binckes and The Concentration Camps of the Anglo-Boer War: A Social History by Elizabeth van Heyningen are juxtaposed with the new South Africa in Drug Muled – The Vanessa Goosen Story by Joanne Joseph and The Things That Could Not Be Said by Frank Chikane.

I’m Missing News by Katy Katopodis, the head of Eyewitness News, is an account of the pressures that see her attempting to balance her dual roles as editor and mother. She Left Me the Gun by Emma Brockes is a narrative non-fiction of a woman’s struggle to escape her abusive father, as discovered by her daughter after her death.

Lampedusa Pie by Andrea Burgener is an irresistibly quirky collection of recipes from the famous Lampedusa pie, to roast chicken with bread sauce, and Sri Lankan potato and mustard curry. Confessions of a Hungry Woman by Sam Woulidge is a compilation of 45 columns previously published in Taste magazine and a celebration of fourteen of Sam’s foodie friends.
